Where is the streaming video???
I have decided to change the Live Truckcam from a streaming video to still images that change automatically every 10 seconds for several reasons.
The main reason was the costs involved in running the stream. We were using an average of 25GB of bandwidth or more each month which translated into several hundred dollars each month!
Another reason is because we were mobile and changing cell towers constantly, it created unique problems that required my constant attention and updating and that got to be too much for me to pull off the road all the time and change the website info in order to make the stream transmit again. With this new still images format, if we lose a tower, you get to see the last image transmitted, and it requires virtually no maintaince on my part when we do find another signal.
Another reason was the quality of the streaming video was not all that great, and the small size alone made things so you ended up missing so much of what was going on around the truck. Now you get to see in a BIG way what is happening, and you actually have time to view it before the next image comes up.
Did you know that if you right click on the camera area, you can SAVE it to your computer? Now you can keep your favorite memories from the roads of America!
In using 62% less bandwidth now, I am free to upload my photography I take as I visit different places around the country. Also, more resources are available for me to start recording fulltime and posting HD videos on a more regular basis.
The images you see are still LIVE......the only difference now is you see it much bigger and in greater detail, and maintaining the website just got a whole lot easier for me! :)
